Weekly Review: Rising Indo-Pak tension spooks market, Sensex plunges 802 points; FIIs remain net buyers - 1 Oct 2016

                                         
The 30-share Sensex slipped 802.26 points, or 2.80 per cent to 27865.96 for the week ended September 30 from 28668.22 on September 23. On similar lines, the 50-share NSE Nifty index plunged 220.40 points, or 2.50 per cent to 8831.55 from 8611.15 during the same period.
Among the top losers in the Nifty 50 index, Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd tumbled the most — 7.80 per cent for the week ended September 30, followed by Tech Mahindra (down 7.47 per cent), Adani Ports (down 7.12 per cent), ICICI Bank (down 6.95 per cent) and Cipla (down 5.21 per cent). On the other hand, ZEE Entertainment, Aurobindo Pharma and YES Bank advanced 3.99 per cent, 1.88 per cent and 1.88 per cent, respectively, and stood among top weekly gainers in the Nifty pack.
Sectorwise, the BSE Power index, Realty index, Capital Goods and FMCG index dipped by 3.83 per cent, 3.73 per cent, 3.55 per cent, 3.26 per cent and 3.11 per cent, respectively, during the week. Other sectoral indices all ended the week with losses.

The Nifty saw biggest fall in four weeks.

 

The 50-share index was up 19.90 points or 0.2 percent at 8611.15. 

 

The Sensex was up 38.43 points or 0.1 percent at 27865.96. 

 

GAIL, ONGC, M&M, Tata Steel and SBI were top gainers while Cipla, ITC, HUL, Coal India, Dr Reddy's and HUL were losers in the Sensex.

Sensex, Nifty remain rangebound; Cipla, Coal India, Bharti drag -- 30 Sep 2016

                                     
The market is still flat with the Nifty still below 8600. The 50-share index is up 1.60 points at 8592.85. The Sensex is down 11.53 points at 27816.00. About 1613 shares have advanced, 580 shares declined, and 130 shares are unchanged.

GAIL, M&M, ONGC, SBI and BHEL are top gainers while Cipla, Coal India, Bharti Airtel, Dr Reddy's Labs and Adani Ports are losers in the Sensex.

Nifty starts October series above 8600; Sensex, Midcap volatile -- 30 Sep 2016

The market started off the October series on a positive note, rebounding sharply after previous day's sharp sell-off. The 50-share NSE Nifty reclaimed 8600 level, rising 10.95 points to 8602.20. The 30-share BSE Sensex was up 39.84 points at 27867.37. 

GAIL, Wipro, Infosys, Sun Pharma and BHEL are top gainers while Adani Ports, Dr Reddy's, Cipla, Coal India and ICICI Bank are losers in the Sensex. 

                                   
The broader markets outperformed benchmarks, rising more than 0.4 percent.

The Indian rupee remained unchanged in opening at 66.85 per dollar against previous close of 66.85.

Live Market Updates: Sensex tanks 465 pts, Nifty ends Sept F&O series below 8600 -- 29 Sep 2016

The market has posted biggest one-day fall in last three months. The Nifty falls below 8600 for first time since August 26. The 50-share index fell 153.90 points or 1.8 percent at 8591.25 while the Sensex is down 465.28 points or 1.6 percent at 27827.53.

Nifty hits 8800 on F&O expiry day, Sensex up over 100pts -- 29 Sep 2016

The market has opened higher on September Futures and Options (F&O) expiry, mainly supported by firm global cues. The Sensex is up 144.05 points or 0.5 percent at 28436.86, and the Nifty up 45.65 points or 0.5 percent at 8790.80. About 393 shares have advanced, 51 shares declined, and 36 shares are unchanged. 

                                       
Bajaj Auto, ONGC, Axis Bank, ICICI Bank and Maruti are top gainers in the Sensex.

The 30-share index was trading 153 points higher or 0.54 per cent at 28,446. It touched a high of 28,475.57 and a low of 28,422.49 in morning trade. 

The Nifty50 was trading at 8,792 up 47 points or 0.55 per cent. It touched a high of 8,800.65 and a low of 8,787.45 in the first 30 minutes of trade. 

The S&P BSE Midcap Index was up 0.61 per cent and BSE S&P Smallcap Index was trading 0.74 per cent up. 

ONGC (up 2 per cent), Bajaj Auto (up 1.07 per cent), Hero MotoCorp (up 1.07 per cent), Adani Ports (up 1.07 per cent), and RIL (up 1.01 per cent) were the major Sensex gainers. 

Bharti Airtel (down 0.74 per cent), Coal India (down 0.3 per cent) and Dr Reddy’s Laboratories (down 0.02 per cent) were the major Sensex losers.

Nifty opens above 8700, Sensex flat; Adani Ports, ONGC gain -- 28 Sep 2016

The market has made a flat opening with the Sensex up 49.91 points or 0.2 percent at 28273.61. The Nifty is up 6.25 points at 8712.65. About 180 shares have advanced, 58 shares declined, and 15 shares are unchanged. 

                                   
Adani Ports, ONGC, Bajaj Auto, Hero MotoCorp and GAIL are top gainers in the Sensex. Among losers are HDFC, Lupin, Asian Paints, Sun Pharma and Infosys.

The Indian rupee opened higher by 4 paise at 66.44 per dollar on Wednesday versus previous close of 66.48.

Sensex rallies over 100 points:

BSE Sensex is trading at 28,415 up 120 points, while NSE Nifty is trading at 8,749 up 26 points. Asian markets are trading mixed. Shanghai Composite and Nikkei 225 are trading marginally higher while Nikkei 225 slipped 0.33%FIPB approved 11 proposals entailing foreign direct investment (FDI) inflow of over Rs 2,300 crore. Among the proposals cleared, Sharekhan Ltd would attract foreign investment of Rs 2,060 crore.

Sensex up over 100 pts, Nifty above 8750; Asian Paints, TCS up -- 27 Sep 2016

                               
The Sensex is up 121.28 points or 0.4 percent at 28415.56 and the Nifty is up 40.10 points or 0. 5 percent at 8763.15. About 659 shares have advanced, 143 shares declined, and 33 shares are unchanged. 

Asian Paints, Coal India, Hero MotoCorp, TCS and Bajaj Auto are top gainers. The Indian rupee rose in the early trade on Tuesday. 

It has opened higher by 7 paise at 66.53 per dollar, which is a 3-week high, against previous close of 66.60.

The 30-share index was trading 98 points higher or 0.34 per cent at 28,390. It touched a high of 28,432.74 and a low of 28,369.64 in morning trade. 

The Nifty50 was trading at 8,754 up 31 points or 0.36 per cent. It touched a high of 8,768.50 and a low of 8,748.35 in the first 30 minutes of trade. 

The S&P BSE Midcap Index was up 0.47 per cent and BSE S&P Smallcap Index was trading 0.52 per cent up. 

Power Grid (up 0.80 per cent), Bajaj Auto (up 0.75 per cent), Coal India (up 0.72 per cent), Axis Bank (up 0.71 per cent), and TCS (up 0.70 per cent) were the major Sensex gainers. 

Bharti Airtel (down 0.5 per cent), and ICICI Bank (down 0.09 per cent) were the major Sensex losers.

Nifty opens below 8800, Sensex falls over 100 pts; TCS, RIL up -- 26 Sep 2016

The market has opened low dragged by profit booking and weak global cues. The Sensex is down 148.90 points or 0.5 percent at 28519.32 and the Nifty is down 46.45 points or 0.5 percent at 8785.10. About 435 shares have advanced, 444 shares declined, and 69 shares are unchanged.

The Indian rupee opened lower by 10 paise at 66.75 per dollar on Monday versus 66.65 Friday.

Markets Weekly: Sensex, Nifty post marginal gains as US Fed maintains status quo on rates; Rupee jumps 0.34% -- 24 Sep 2016

Benchmark indices BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty ended the week with marginal gains after US Federal Reserve left key interest rates unchanged. Markets also got a boost from reports that foreign institutional investors poured over Rs 5,500 crore into the capital markets within a fortnight this month.

Markets also got a boost from reports that foreign institutional investors poured over Rs 5,500 crore into the capital markets within a fortnight this month. For the week ended September 23, the 30-share index closed 69.19 points, or 0.24 per cent, up at 28668.22, while the Nifty 50-index jumped 51.70 points, or 0.59 per cent, to 8831.55.
In the Nifty 50-index, Hindalco, Eicher Motors, Aurobindo Pharma, Bharti Infratel and YES Bank gained 8.17 per cent, 7.20 per cent, 6.53 per cent, 5.46 per cent and 5.28 per cent, respectively. On the other hand, Axis Bank, Idea Cellular, Lupin, ITC and Tech Mahindra slipped by 7.60 per cent, 3.46 per cent, 3.27 per cent and 2.78 per cent, respectively, during the week.
Barring the BSE IT index (down 0.26 per cent) and FMCG index (down 0.26 per cent), all other sectoral indices ended the week in green. The BSE Metal index, Oil & Gas, Telecom, Realty and Consumer Durables index gained 3.46 per cent, 3.08 per cent, 2.02 per cent, 1.92 per cent and 1.42 per cent, respectively, in the past five trading sessions.

Dr Reddy's Laboratories (up 0.57 per cent), L&T (up 0.4 per cent), RIL (up 0.34 per cent), Sun Pharma (up 0.27 per cent), and TCS (up 0.27 per cent) were the major Sensex gainers. 

Axis Bank (down 1.6 per cent), Infosys (down 0.7 per cent), Lupin (down 0.7 per cent), and Hero MotoCorp (down 0.30 per cent) were the major Sensex losers.
